It’s a rewarding path — but it’s not a walk in the park. Here’s everything you need to know to get started.
Present a full valid Ontario driver's license and complete the Application for Ontario Driving Instructor License form (SR-LD-007). They will check your driving record and collect the fee for the G1 written test and G road test.
Courses are available full-time (4 weeks) or part-time (12 weeks). They include both in-class and in-vehicle components, covering driving theory, Highway Traffic Act, and practical training.
Pass the G1 knowledge test (minimum 80%) and G road test. We recommend taking the road test after completing the Driving Instructor Course.
Submit a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) to the Ministry of Ontario. This can be done online or at a local police station.
